Do you need vaccinations?
Our Nurses are trained to provide an NHS travel health service offering advice and appropriate vaccinations and immunisations.
Certain travel vaccines are provided free of charge because they protect public health and prevent the spread of serious diseases back into the UK. However, many other travel-specific vaccines and antimalarial medications are not funded by the NHS and must be paid for privately.
If you are travelling abroad and wish to take advantage of the NHS travel immunisations offered by us, please contact reception and ask for a Travel Immunisation Request form. this must be completed and submited in plenty of time (we recommend at least 10 weeks) before your journey.
Free NHS Travel Vaccines
The NHS covers specific routine and public-health-linked travel immunizations:
- Hepatitis A
- Typhoid
- Cholera
- Polio, diphtheria and tetanus boosters (combined UK routine booster
Private Travel Vaccines (Not Free on NHS)
You must pay for vaccines that are strictly required for travel or protect against diseases with lower public health risk to the general UK populace:
- Yellow fever
- Rabies
- Japanese encephalitis
- Hepatitis B
- Meningitis ACWY (for travel purposes)
- Tick-borne encephalitis
- Malaria prevention tablets
You can book and pay for travel vaccinations at a private vaccination clinic, or a pharmacy with travel health services.
Vaccines need time to take effect and some may require a course over several weeks; because of this NHSE does not fund immunisations given less than 8 weeks before travel.
So please ensure you submit your travel information in good time, to enable us to arrange an appointment for a travel consultation at least 8 weeks before your departure.
Any vaccinations and immunisations required in less than 8 weeks of your departure date will need to be sought from a private travel clinic.
Preparing For Your Appointment
At your appointment, you may be asked about previous travel vaccinations and routine vaccinations. All travellers, including children, are recommended to be up to date with standard vaccinations, such as measles.
If you do not know what vaccinations you've had, you can get help with vaccinations in the NHS App, or ask your GP surgery for a copy of your immunisation history.

Travel Assessment
We offer a full travel advice service regarding vaccinations and immunisations needed for your travels.
If you are travelling abroad and wish to take advantage of the NHS travel immunisations offered by us, please complete and submit a travel form in plenty of time (we recommend at least 8 weeks) before your journey.
Important Information
NHSE will not permit travel immunisations to be given via the NHS (free) if the patient is travelling within 2 weeks of completing the course; as the immunisation will not have had sufficient time to take effect (seroconvert) and therefore NHS resources will have been wasted.
Buckinghamshire Policy
Patients are required to commence courses of treatment no later than 8 weeks before travel. Patients requesting travel immunisation protection after this time are not entitled to the service under the NHS travel clinic program, and therefore a nurse travel clinic appointment will not be offered at the surgery.

Travel Vaccination Prices
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge or incur a charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS; you will be advised at your appointment of these costs.
Payment for non-NHS services must be made at the first travel appointment.
